Alexander Ramsay "Alex" Ireland (born February 11, 1901 in Edinburgh ; † January 24, 1966 there ) was a British boxer . He took part in the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp .

Alexander Ireland won the welterweight silver medal at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp . In 1921 he became British amateur champion, then he turned professional. In 1926 he won the Scottish welterweight title against Hamilton Johnny Brown . In 1928 he won the European, Commonwealth and British middleweight titles in a fight against Tommy Milligan . Six months later, Ireland successfully defended the Commonwealth and British middleweight titles against Frank Moody . On May 16, 1929 he lost the two titles by knockout against Len Harvey . On April 14, 1930 he lost to Steve McCall the fight for the Scottish middleweight title on points. Then he ended his career. He won 21 fights in nine losses and three draws.
