Career as a professional

D'Ottavio became a professional boxer in 1950. In 1957, he won the Italian light heavyweight title. He won the title against Rocco Mazzola ( Italy ) and lost it five months later to the same opponent. His fight record was 29 wins, 13 losses and 4 draws.
