Albert "Al" Robinson (born June 18, 1947 in Paris , Texas , † January 24, 1974 in Oakland , California ) was an American featherweight boxer who took part in the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City .

Amateur career

Al Robinson won the silver medal at the 1967 Pan American Games in Winnipeg . He also won the silver medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. In the final he boxed against Antonio Roldán from Mexico . Robinson dominated the fight but was twice cautioned and disqualified by the referee for head butts. Career as a professional

Robinson turned pro in 1969. He won six fights before losing to Fermin Soto ( Mexico ). He recovered and won the next six fights. On April 30, 1971, he collapsed after training at the New Oakland Boxing Club . He fell into a coma and died on January 24, 1974.
