Alexander Ivanovich Laweikin ( Russian Александр Иванович Лавейкин ; born April 21, 1951 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian engineer and former Soviet cosmonaut .

education

After Alexander Laweikin successfully completed his engineering studies at the " Moscow State Technical NEBauman University " in Moscow in 1974 , the designer was employed as a structural engineer for cosmic spacecraft at NPO Energija . On December 1, 1978, Laweikin was selected as a spaceman by the “State Intermediate Commission” in consultation with NPO Energija.

Space flights

In 1987 he flew Sojus TM-2 as a flight engineer of the first crew of the space station I in the space . There, the designer was involved in the expansion of the Mir in three EVAs : on April 11, 1987, he removed foreign objects from the coupling socket, and on June 12 and 16, 1987, he installed a solar cell carrier with two solar cells .

From 1989 to 1994 Laweikin was deputy commander of the cosmonaut group of NPO Energija. In 1992 he was on the Soyuz TM-15 backup team. After massive weight problems made it impossible for him to wear the Orlan spacesuit , the Medical Commission revoked his flight status. Laweikin left the cosmonaut corps on March 28, 1994 and left NPO Energija in April 1994.

Laweikin is married and has one child.
