Alexander Ivanovich Pishchikov

Alexander Pishchikov ( Russian Александр Иванович Пищиков , international mostly Alexander Pishchikov ; born November 25, 1945 in Priwolschski ) is a Russian jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , soprano saxophone and flutist ) and composer of modern jazz . He was one of the first and best musicians of the former USSR to be inspired by John Coltrane .

Act

Pishchikov's artistic career began in Riga when he became an instrumental soloist in the Philharmonic Big Band under the baton of Egil Schwarz (Riga Estradenorchester) in 1961 . His successes include appearances at jazz festivals in Soviet Estonia (1960, 1967). In the 1960s he toured with the big bands of Eddie Rosner and Anatoli Kroll .

At the same time, Pishchikov worked with various smaller formations (quartets by Alexey Kozlov and Kroll, ensemble "Melodia" of the Soviet record company under Georgiy Garanyan ) and since 1978 has performed repeatedly as the leader of a quintet .

After the collapse of the Soviet Union , he played in the big bands of Garanyan and Oleg Lundstrem before emigrating to Germany in 1997. Here Pishchikov devoted himself increasingly to composition, recorded conceptual albums with international soloists and collaborated with the music project The Swinging Partysans .
