Alexander Sure

Alexander Klar (* 1968 in Waiblingen ) is a German art historian and museum director. Since 2010 he has been director of the Wiesbaden Museum and took over the management of the Hamburger Kunsthalle on August 1, 2019 .

Live and act

Alexander Klar was born in Waiblingen and grew up in Athens . After finishing school, he studied art history, history and Christian archeology in Erlangen , where he received his doctorate from the Friedrich-Alexander University in 2000 . He wrote his dissertation on the architect Friedrich Bürklein . After positions at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York (1997), at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice (2000) and at the Kunsthalle in Emden (2002 to 2004), he was exhibition curator at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London from 2004 . In 2008 Klar was the founding director of the Emil Schumacher Museum in Hagen and in 2010 took over the management of the Wiesbaden Museum from Volker Rattemeyer . In August 2019 he succeeded Christoph Martin Vogtherr as director of the Hamburger Kunsthalle .
