Christian W. Lübbers (* 1977 in Hanover ) is a German specialist in ear, nose and throat medicine and a homeopathic critic .

Career

Lübbers studied medicine in Marburg and Munich and received his doctorate in 2005 under Gerd Rasp on the topic of "On the results of the reconstruction of the ossicular chain with the Bojrab prosthesis and the development of a new plot display". He completed his specialist training with Alexander Berghaus and Hjalmar Hagedorn . He worked at the Großhadern Clinic and most recently as a senior physician at the Dachau Clinic before he took over an ENT practice in Weilheim in Upper Bavaria in 2011 , which he subsequently expanded.

Homeopathy Criticism

Lübbers is one of the most prominent critics of homeopathy in Germany. In January 2017 he removed a four year old child, which he because of a purulent otitis media treated in his practice, several globules from the ear. These were mistakenly applied there by the parents. The case inspired him to write his first homeopathy-critical post on Twitter , which was shared by over 1,800 people shortly afterwards. On July 23, 2017, he first used the hashtag #Globukalypse (back then still spelled “#Glob o kalypse”), a suitcase word made up of globules and apocalypse . As a result, he used it intensively in the course of educating people about homeopathy on his Twitter account and the catchphrase was quickly adopted by other users. According to Lübbers, in addition to honest patient communication , the term stands for an abolition of the reimbursement of health insurance funds, compulsory pharmacy and the medicinal status of homeopathic preparations, without, however, wanting to restrict the freedom of choice of the informed patient. The aim is to lift the "esoteric veil" in terms of an objectifiable assessment of pseudomedicine . Discussions with those who think differently on social media should be objective and respectful. In the course of an increasingly intense and controversial discussion on the subject of homeopathy, the hashtag coined by Lübbers gained wider circulation in social networks and was also taken up in traditional media. The discussion about legal steps that the pharmaceutical company Hevert-Arzneimittel took against homeopathy critics in May 2019 (including an attempt to warn the doctor and author Natalie Grams , who is critical of homeopathy , that she should refrain from making the public statement that homeopathy “does not go beyond the placebo effect”) , gave this movement an additional boost.

Lübber's Twitter profile now has over 30,000 followers. Various media in Germany as well as abroad reported on his activities against homeopathy and for evidence-based medicine .

Christian Lübbers is spokesman for the homeopathy information network and in this capacity is a sought-after expert in the media.
