The Information Network Homeopathy (INH) is a free association of homeopathic critics . According to its own information, the association is “a body of the Society for the Scientific Investigation of Para-Sciences e. V. (GWUP) ", but independent of this. According to the network, material costs are borne by donations from private individuals and with the support of the GWUP and the German Consumer Association. The INH contributors provide working time and resources free of charge. In addition, the INH does not receive any benefits .

The information network and its members see themselves as part of the skeptic movement . It has no legal personality. The members come from the medical field as well as from other scientific fields.

history

The merger to form the INH took place on the occasion of a meeting initiated by the author and homeopathic critic Norbert Aust of interested people from Germany and Austria in January 2016 in Freiburg. The founding circle included u. a. Natalie Grams (doctor and former homeopath), Rudolf Happle (doctor, Leopoldina member and author of the Marburg Declaration on Homeopathy ) and Christian Weymayr (journalist and science author ). Natalie Grams was given the lead. On the occasion of the founding meeting, concerns and goals of the network were laid down in the so-called Freiburg Declaration on Homeopathy .

The establishment of the INH received attention in the print media, regionally, nationally and also in periodicals.

In April 2020 Natalie Grams handed over the management of the INH to Jutta Hübner .

Goals and demands

In the Freiburg Declaration on Homeopathy , the INH describes its goals as follows:

“The goals of our criticism are not the patient seeking healing and the individual homeopathic therapist, but rather the established teaching and institutions of the health care system, which could long ago recognize the absurdity of homeopathy but still do not intervene. We call on the actors of the scientifically based health system to finally turn away from homeopathy and other pseudo-medical procedures and return to what should be taken for granted: scientifically validated, fair and generally comprehensible rules for high-quality medicine, geared towards the well-being of the patient. "

Specifically, the network demands:

  • Comprehensive education and information for patients on the subject of homeopathy, in particular that homeopathic preparations have no therapeutic effectiveness beyond the placebo effect and that homeopathy is neither naturopathy nor phytotherapy (herbal medicine ).
  • Ending the internal consensus and the special legal position of homeopathy as a "special therapy facility".
  • No reimbursement of the costs of homeopathic treatments by the health insurances by restricting the statutory benefits in the statutory health insurance supply law.
  • Abolition of the pharmacy obligation for homeopathic medicines in order to prevent them from participating in the reputable image of the pharmacy as an institution.
  • Labeling of the substances used in German and no longer in Latin (e.g. "dog excrement" instead of "Excrementum caninum") from a consumer protection perspective.
  • No further education, training or further education in homeopathy at universities and colleges, unless on a medical-historical and method-critical basis.
  • Strengthening evidence-based medicine and differentiating it from esoteric complexes.
  • Strengthening patient orientation in medicine.

activity

Projects

  • The INH maintains a website with a number of articles on homeopathy.
  • The online reference work Homeopedia operated by the INH aims to provide critical information about homeopathy, its principles and methods. According to the company, the publications are subject to a prior review.
  • The internet-based project Susannchen Doesn't Need Globules is primarily intended to address the target group of parents with children. In December 2016, this project was presented to the public through a poster campaign in Heidelberg, Munich, Hamburg and Köthen.

Initiatives (selection)

  • In November 2016, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) decided that homeopathic remedies should be labeled to the effect that there was no scientific evidence of the effectiveness of the products and that the manufacturer's claims were based solely on the theories of homeopathy, which date from the 18th century and will not be accepted by most medical professionals. The INH then issued a statement and an open letter to a total of 134 responsible persons and institutions from politics and consumer protection as well as the responsible authorities, asking whether Germany saw a need for action in view of this fundamental decision.
  • To the patronage of the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Ministry of Health Annette Widmann-Mauz over the 72nd Homeopathic World Medical Congress from June 14th to 17th 2017 in Leipzig, the INH and the GWUP Science Council asked the State Secretary in a joint open letter to support the Congress dispense.
  • In an open letter to Health Minister Jens Spahn in 2019, the INH called for the abolition of "the so-called internal consensus in Section 38 of the Medicines Act ", which creates an "incomprehensible protective space for means of 'special therapy directions'".
  • In 2019, the INH criticized in an open letter the assumption of patronage by Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig over the annual congress of the German Central Association of Homeopathic Doctors .
  • In September 2019, Health Minister Jens Spahn spoke out against removing homeopathy from the statutory health insurance benefits. In an open letter to him, the INH criticized, among other things, that the minister was giving room to an "increasing hostility to science and facts".

public relation

The members were repeatedly present in the media. So did Christian Lübbers in his capacity as speaker of INH in a video of Neo magazine Royale to speak. He also wrote guest posts for Die Zeit . Norbert Aust demonstrated the production of homeopathic dilutions in contributions by Spiegel TV and Arte and commented on the study situation. The positions of the INH and its representatives have also found repeated resonance in the press.
