Alexander Nikolajewitsch Potejew

Alexander Nikolajewitsch Potejew ( Russian Александр Николаевич Потеев ; born March 7, 1952 in Luninez ) is a former Russian intelligence officer.

Poteev is the son of a hero of the Soviet Union . He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner for his service in the Afghan war . He later worked for the First Main Department of the Soviet KGB . From 2000 to 2010 he was deputy head of the department for illegal agents at the Russian foreign intelligence service, the Slushba vneschnei raswedki .

He had also worked as a double agent for the US CIA since 1999 . Since the discovery of the ring of agents around Anna Vasilyevna Chapman in the summer of 2010, Alexander Potejew has lived in the USA. In 2011 he was sentenced by a Russian court for treason and desertion to a prison term of 25 years as well as demotion and disqualification.
