Alexander Schippel

Alexander Schippel (born January 3, 1979 in Berlin ) is a German photographer and photojournalist .

Life

Schippel is the son of the philologist Larisa Schippel and the political economist Günter Schippel. After graduating from secondary school, he trained as a photographer at the Free University of Berlin from 1997 to 2000 . Schippel then worked freelance.

From 2001 to 2003 Schippel lived in Schwerin . There he created works on Schwerin, Wismar and the surrounding area, where he primarily photographed landscapes, architecture and cityscapes. In 2004 he founded the Atelier Schippel and increasingly turned to artistic photography. During this time, in addition to a series of calendars, architectural photographs of Berlin and East Germany were made, as well as a series of portraits of Brandenburg artists, including the sculptor Werner Stötzer , the pianists Siegfried and Michael Stöckigt, the director Wolfgang Kohlhaase , the composer Georg Katzer .

Schippel primarily photographs with a Sinar 4x5 ″ large-format camera . He works with special materials and chemicals such as B. infrared sensitive films. In addition to contemporary photography, Alexander Schippel deals with the processing of glass plates from the period from 1920 to 1945.
