Alexander Sergeyevich Pavlyuchenkov ( Russian Александр Сергеевич Павлюченков ; English Alexander Sergeyevitch Pavlioutchenkov ; born December 3, 1985 in Samara , Russian SFR ) is a Russian tennis player .
Career
Pavlyuchenkow was introduced to tennis by his sporty family (father was an Olympic canoeist, mother a swimmer). His sister is the top player Anastassija Pavlyuchenkova (* 1991). His grandmother also played basketball professionally.
Alexander Pavlyuchenkow has only played on the third and second rate Future and Challenger Tour so far . So far, he has won 20 double titles on the Future Tour. He made his first appearance on the professional tour when he was 14 years old at a future tournament in Russia. In the 2001 season he played his first tournament on the Challenger Tour. In singles, he was mostly eliminated after the first or second round and only made it into a final on the Future Tour once. Pavlyuchenkov was much more successful in doubles and won his first title on the Future Tour in 2002. In the two following years he was able to repeat this success. Between 2006 and 2011 he did not play a game on the professional tour and he fell out of the world rankings .
In 2011 and 2012 he celebrated two double titles on the Future Tour, which meanwhile made him back into the top 500. Since he did not get past the first round in the following year and again did not play a game on the professional tour in 2015, he was again not in the world rankings. In 2016 he celebrated his second comeback and won three future titles straight away. With five further successes in 2017, he steadily improved in the world rankings and was 325th at the end of the year.
In 2018 he finally made his breakthrough on the Challenger Tour. After his best result until then was a semi-finals entry from 2002, he first moved into the quarter-finals in Qarshi and Samarqand in May , and celebrated his first title win a month later in Fargʻona . At the side of Ivan Gachow , he defeated the Indian duo Saketh Myneni and N. Vijay Sundar Prashanth in the final . Through this success he achieved his best place in the world rankings with the 213rd place.
