Alexander Shtarkman

Alexander Shtarkman ( Aleksandr Štarkman , * 1967 ) is an American pianist and music teacher .

Shtarkman was a successful participant in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 1989 and in the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1994 . At the First Taipei International Piano Competition he received first prize and was then engaged for several concerts in Asia. In 1995 he won first prize at the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano, which brought him more than sixty offers for recitals and concert appearances in Europe.

In the United States, Shtarkman has performed with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra , the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra , the Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra , the Chicago Sinfonietta , the Northwood Festival Orchestra , the Marin Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of Albuquerque . He has given recitals at the Ambassador Foundation , the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts , the Tisch Center for the Performing Arts , the Rising stars Series of the Ravinia Festival , The Peace Center and the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall . Since 2002 he has been Professor of Piano at the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University .
