Alexander "Alex" Tachie-Mensah (born February 15, 1977 in Accra ) is a former Ghanaian soccer player . He was primarily a striker , but could also be used in midfield .

He began his career in Ghana with the Dwarfs before moving to the top Swiss division in 2000 at Neuchâtel Xamax . In 2002 he then moved to FC St. Gallen. In Switzerland he was able to achieve a total of 75 goals in 190 top division games.

He played for the national team of his homeland for the first time on Christmas Day 2001 against Mali , as well as at the 2002 Africa Cup, but after that he was very rarely used, so he was neither in the squad for the 2006 Africa Cup nor played a single one Qualifier for the 2006 World Cup ; Nevertheless, Tachie-Mensah was appointed to his home squad for the 2006 World Cup. There he came to three short appearances, including in the round of 16 against Brazil .

On June 9, 2009, Tachie-Mensah announced his resignation. After a dislocation fracture and later an infection , there was no real comeback, because the club doctors could no longer guarantee a return to top-class sport. Tachie-Mensah had to end his career.

After the end of his career, he worked as a youth coach at FC Frauenfeld from 2009 to summer 2011.

He has been running a kyBoot shoe store in Frauenfeld since summer 2011 .
