Alexander Tchigir

Alexander Tchigir ( Russian Александр Чигирь ; born November 6, 1968 in Moscow ) is a German water polo goalkeeper of Russian origin.

Tchigir won bronze at the 1991 European Championship with the Soviet Union team. At the 1992 Olympic Games , he won the bronze medal with the CIS team. In 1994 at the World Cup, Tchigir won his third bronze medal, this time with the Russian national team. Tchigir completed a total of 344 international matches for the Soviet Union and Russia.

On December 4, 1997, Tchigir received German citizenship. Since then he has completed over 300 international matches for Germany (as of June 2010). The best placement with the German team was fifth at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . At the 2005 World Cup , Tchigir was voted into the all-start team despite being 9th in the German team. At the 2007 World Cup , Germany finished eighth, Tchigir was re-elected to the Allstar team by the media representatives and also received a special FINA prize for the tournament's best goalkeeper.

Tchigir has been playing for Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 for eleven years , with whom he won the championship and cup double nine times; In 2003 the team was only champions and in 2006 only cup winners. Before that, Tchigir played for SV Würzburg 05 and SSF Delphin Wuppertal. The 1.91 m tall Tchigir is a qualified sports teacher.
