Alexander Thies

Alexander Thies (* 1960 in Frankfurt / Main ) is a German film producer and chairman of the board of the Alliance of German Producers - Film & Fernsehen  e. V.

Career and professional activity

Alexander Thies completed his training as a business graduate in 1988 . In 1989 he started working for the film production company and film distribution company NFP * . Since 1993 he has headed the NFP group as managing director and since 1996 as managing partner together with his brother Stefan Thies . Alexander Thies is responsible for international business.

The German-Canadian coproduction Bonhoeffer - The Last Stage with Ulrich Tukur as Bonhoeffer was both a surprise success in German cinema in 2000 and NFP * 's first success in English-speaking North America; the film reached 13 million viewers in the USA. Under the direction of Alexander Thies, the NFP * at Bonhoeffer - The Last Level took over the distribution of the film for the first time. This was followed by Luther (2003) with Joseph Fiennes in the lead role, which was sold in over 30 countries, and in 2009 the German-South African co-production Albert Schweitzer - A Life for Africa .
