Alexander Garden

The Alexander Garden ( Russian Алекса́ндровский сад - Alexandrowski sad ( pronunciation ? / I )) is a public park adjacent to the Kremlin and Red Square in the historic center of the Russian capital Moscow . It is located directly on the approximately 865 meter long north-western section of the Kremlin wall . In the middle, the garden is spanned by a historic bridge that leads from the Kutafja Tower over the Troitskaya Tower into the Kremlin. Right next to it is the entrance to the metro stations Alexandrowski Sad and Biblioteka imeni Lenina . At its northern end, the Alexandergarten borders on Manegeplatz . Audio file / audio sample

The Alexander Garden was in the years 1819-1823, designed by the Russian-Italian architect Joseph Bové applied after the bed of the previously flowing along the Kremlin wall Moscow -Nebenflusses Neglinnaja for reasons of hygiene and flood control was diverted into an underground channel. The newly created park was named after the ruling Tsar Alexander I at the time . The Alexandergarten is an almost rectangular, elongated complex with avenues and extensive lawns, which after its construction quickly developed into a popular destination for walkers and tourists. One of the sights of the garden is the monument “ Tomb of the Unknown Soldier ” built in 1967 at the northern gate of the park.
