Alexandra Sostmann (born October 3, 1970 in Barßel ) is a German pianist .

Alexandra Sostmann studied with Volker Banfield and Evgeni Koroliov at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg and with Peter Katin at the Royal College of Music in London, where she also passed her concert exam. Semesters abroad took her to the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the École Normale de Musique in Paris. In Paris she studied a. a. at Marcella Crudeli . Sostmann has won several awards at international piano and chamber music competitions, so she won first prize at the Caltanissetta International Chamber Music Competition (1998) while still a student.

Alexandra Sostmann has given concerts in her home country (e.g. Konzerthaus Berlin, Frauenkirche Dresden, Ruhr Piano Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival) as well as in other European and non-European countries. Her concert activities in South America (Argentina, Chile, Ecuador) form a special focus. After her last concert tour in autumn 2016, the city of Mar del Plata awarded her the status of Guest of Honor.

As a soloist, Alexandra Sostmann u. a. Performed with the following orchestras: Göttinger Sinfonie Orchester, Kammersymphonie Berlin, Babelsberg Film Orchestra, Mar del Plata Symphony Orchestra, Cappella Istropolitana, Orquesta Sinfonica de Bahía Blanca, Banda Sinfonica Municipal de Mar del Plata Argentina. She passes on her knowledge to the next generation of artists in master classes.

Together with the pianist Judith Mosch , Alexandra Sostmann formed the “Duo Villarceaux”. The two artists devoted themselves to piano music for two pianos and four hands for over 12 years and interpreted works from the baroque, classical and romantic periods as well as modern compositions. They also premiered numerous works. During this period of collaboration, radio and television recordings were made, as well as several CD releases.

Alexandra Sostmann is concerned with making connections between different musical historical epochs and styles tangible. In 2014 she released a solo CD on the subject of "Bach & Contemporary Music", in 2017 a CD with a juxtaposition of Bach's French Suites and Chopin's Mazurkas, and in 2020 a CD on the subject of counterpoint entitled 'Bach, Byrd, Gibbons + Contemporary Music' . Alexandra Sostmann works with contemporary composers and artists from other fields, such as B. with the Chinese composer Xiaoyong Chen, the choreographer ballet director Jutta Ebnother and the jazz pianist Markus Horn. Sostmann officially belongs to the circle of Steinway Artists.

Sostmann lives in Hamburg .
