Alexandre Eremenko

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alexandre Eremenko , Russian Александр Эммануилович Еременко , transcription Alexander Emmanuilowitsch Jerjomenko (* 1954 in Kharkiv ) is an American mathematician from Ukraine . He is a professor at Purdue University .

Eremenko studied mathematics at the National Ivan Franko University of Lemberg with a degree in 1976 and a doctorate in 1979 with Naum Samoilowitsch Landkof and Anatoli Asirowitsch Goldberg (1930-2008) at the University of Rostov (asymptotic properties of meromorphic and subharmonic functions). Until 1990 he was in Kharkiv at the Institute for Physics of Low Temperatures and then went to the USA.

He deals with geometric function theory, value distribution theory and complex dynamics as well as mathematical physics.

In the complex dynamics, he examined escaping sets during the iteration of entire transcendent functions and assumed that the connected components of this escaping set are unlimited (conjecture by Eremenko). The assumption is open.

In 2002 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Beijing (Value distribution theory and potential theory). He received the Humboldt Research Award and became a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society in 2013 .
