Alexandre Rignault

Alexandre Paul Rignault (born February 14, 1901 in Paris , † March 31, 1985 in Saint-Mandé ) was a French actor in theater, film and television.

Life

Rignault began his professional career as an employee of a gas works . A little later he switched to acting and began to gain experience in an amateur theater troupe. Tours took him through the French provinces. In 1926 he met Louis Jouvet , who brought him into his acting troupe. Rignault stayed there for a total of five years. Rignault celebrated a great success alongside Jouvet in the play Knock , both at the theater and in the two theatrical versions.

Alexandre Rignault stepped in front of the camera for the first time with the dawn of the sound film age. The native Parisian mostly played supporting roles in the film; He had leading roles as Commissioner Juve in Fantomas and as Caderousse in Der Graf von Monte-Christo . Rignault's role repertoire encompassed almost the entire range of types: He embodied both good-natured family people and villainous and brutal guys. Most recently, until immediately before his death, Rignault was increasingly seen on television.
