Alexandru Coconul

Alexandru Coconul († June 26, 1632 in Istanbul ; German: Alexander der Versponnene ) was Prince of the Principality of Wallachia from August 14, 1623 to November 3, 1627 and Prince of the Principality of Moldova from the first half of June 1629 to April 29, 1630 .

During his rule over Wallachia in Bucharest , his father Radu Mihnea ruled for the still very young prince (hence his nickname). Radu Mihnea held the throne in the Principality of Moldova at this time. This marks the unification of the Danube Principalities to form the State of Romania in 1859, albeit not de jure .

After being deposed by the Sublime Porte in Istanbul , he pays the Ottomans such high bribes (it is said to have been 100,000 Venetian gold pieces ) that in 1629 he was once again entrusted with a prince's office - this time in the Principality of Moldova. There he replaces Miron Barnovschi-Movila as ruler.

The Sultan soon came to the conclusion that Alexandru was not suitable for this position and deposed him again. He died on June 26, 1632 in the Turkish capital.
