Alfonsin Quintana

Idelfonso Quintana Fabelo ( Alfonsín Quintana ; born January 23, 1923 in Havana ; † March 3, 2018 ibid) was a Cuban singer.

Quintana attended the Colegio de Atarés , continued his training at the Asociación de Dependientes del Comercio and worked as an office worker in a furniture store. In 1938 the pianist Neno González recommended him to the septet Jóvenes del Cayo , whose direction he took over as the successor to Miguelito Valdés . In 1940 the radio station COCO engaged him as a singer for performances with the orchestras of Joseíto Valdés and Cheo Belén Puig . In the 1950s he took music lessons from Odilio Urfé and occasionally appeared on the radio with the Sensación Orchestra .

In 1958 he founded the night club Alí Bar with Benny Moré , where he performed together with him. In addition, he continued to work as a conductor and singer with the Jóvenes del Cayo until 1963 ; then he pursued a career as a soloist. In 1964 he founded his own group called Alfonsín Quintana y su grupo , with which he appeared in Cabaret del Turquino , Tropicana , Internacional and Casino Parisién and recorded with the labels Coda , Landia , Seeco , Ansonia , Panart , Puchito and RCA Victor played. Internationally, Quintana performed in Panama, Colombia and the USA, among others. In 2011 he was nominated for a Latin Grammy as the singer of Edesio Alejandro's project Los cien sones .
