Alfons Bernkopf

Alfons Bernkopf (born April 27, 1925 in Krems an der Donau ; † April 13, 2014 ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and head of the Chamber of Labor in Zwettl . He was a member of the Federal Council from 1969 to 1970 and a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament from 1970 to 1983 .

education and profession

Bernkopf attended elementary school in Krems an der Donau from 1931 to 1935 and then graduated from the local secondary school between 1935 and 1939, where he received a total of 14 days of house arrest under SA surveillance in 1938. In addition to the vocational school, which he attended in Krems between 1940 and 1942, Bernkopf was a junior helper at the Deutsche Reichsbahn between 1940 and 1942 and joined the Reichsbahn in 1942. He served in the Wehrmacht from 1943 and spent the years 1945 to 1946 in French captivity. In 1947 he joined the Vienna Chamber of Labor and in 1948 moved to the Lower Austria Chamber of Labor, Krems office. From 1950 until his retirement in 1985 he held the position of head of the office in Zwettl.

Bernkopf was district chairman of the ÖGB Zwettl from 1956 to 1976 and represented the SPÖ in the Federal Council from November 20, 1969 to May 6, 1970 . He then moved from May 8, 1970 to November 4, 1983 in the Lower Austrian state parliament and was a local councilor in Zwettl between 1971 and 1980 . Within the party, he also held the function of district party chairman of the SPÖ Zwettl from 1970 to 1984 and was a member of the state party executive of the SPÖ Lower Austria from 1970 to 1984.
