Alfonso María Dastis Quecedo (born October 5, 1955 in Jerez de la Frontera ) is a Spanish diplomat and politician . He was Foreign Minister of Spain from November 2016 to June 2018 .

Dastis graduated from Madrid with a law degree and is non-party. Since 1983 he has carried out the following activities in the diplomatic service: From 1989 to 1994 he acted as an advisor to the permanent mission to the United Nations. He was Secretary General for European Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2002 to 2004. He was also Ambassador to the Netherlands for three years from 2004 . From 2011 to 2016 he was the permanent representative to the European Union . In November 2016 he succeeded José Manuel García-Margallo as Spanish Foreign Minister.

With the constructive no-confidence vote on June 1, 2018, the said Cortes Generales over the Rajoy government of her suspicions, whereupon the reign Dastis' ended. Josep Borrell was his successor . On July 16, 2018, Dastis was appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Italy .
