Alfred Basch

Alfred Basch (born October 9, 1882 in Prague , † August 26, 1958 in Vienna ) was an Austrian mathematician.

Life

Basch studied mechanical engineering at the TH Vienna , was at the technical research institutes at the German Technical University in Prague and the TH Dresden and received his doctorate in 1909 at the TH Vienna. After military service in World War I, he was at the Federal Office for Metrology and Surveying in Vienna and in 1926 became a private lecturer in practical analysis at the Vienna University of Technology. After the annexation of Austria he was released in 1938 and went to the USA, where he was, among other things, Assistant Professor at Amherst College and Associate Professor at the University of Massachusetts in Fort Devons. In 1947 he was back in Vienna, became a real councilor and in 1948 a full professor at the Vienna University of Technology.

He dealt with applied mathematics and engineering mechanics.
