Alfred F. Lichtenstein
Alfred F. Lichtenstein (born August 6, 1876 in Brooklyn , † February 24, 1947 in New York City ) was one of the most famous American philatelists .
He grew up in Brooklyn and developed an interest in postage as a boy . Lichtenstein was president of Ciba in New York, a forerunner of the pharmaceutical company Ciba-Geigy . He owned a very extensive philatelic collection of classic postage stamps, including the “ Bordeaux Letter ”, which his daughter Louise Boyd Dale (1913–1967) later carried on. He worked as a juror at philatelic events. In 1945 he and others founded the Philatelic Foundation (German: philatelic foundation). In his memory, the Collectors Club of New York donated the Lichtenstein Award , which has been presented since 1952. His and his daughter's collection was auctioned off at several auctions between 1968 and 1997.
