Alfred Feldmann

Alfred Feldmann (born May 16, 1840 in Osnabrück , † July 25, 1923 in Bremen ) was a German manufacturer and president of the Bremen Chamber of Commerce .

biography

Feldmann came from a merchant family. He studied chemistry and received his doctorate Dr. rer nat. and became a pharmacist . In 1867 he moved to Bremen. Here he ran a mineral water factory. His company was successful, especially in export. In 1903 he also founded the Hanseatic security and locking company "Brema" .

In 1872 he was elected to the Bremen citizenship for the 3rd class of tradespeople with the right to vote in trade chambers . He was a member of various deputations and commissions and on the board of the citizenship.

From 1874 Feldmann was vice president of the Bremen Chamber of Commerce several times. From 1881 to 1883, from 1887 to 1889 and from 1898 to 1911 he was President of the Chamber of Commerce. During this time, the Chamber of Commerce saw itself as a “solid base for order in bourgeois life [...] to create a solid middle class and thus a strong defense against the danger of social democracy”.

In 1890 Feldmann was deputy chairman of the exhibition committee of the Northwest German Trade and Industry Exhibition , which took place from May to October 1890 in Bremen's Bürgerpark .
