Alfred Gilgen (1975)

Alfred Gilgen (born November 28, 1930 in Zurich ; † February 12, 2018 ) was a Swiss politician ( LdU ). He was a Zurich government councilor for 24 years .

Life

Gilgen studied medicine at the University of Zurich. He was elected to the Cantonal Council for the first time in 1959 and re-elected in 1963. 1969/70 he was President of the Cantonal Council. In 1971 he became a councilor ( cantonal government ) and in this function took over the department of the education department, which he headed for an unusually long term of 24 years. In 1975/1976, 1982/1983, 1987/1988, 1991/1992 he was the district president.

Gilgen had the rank of colonel in the Swiss army . In 1978 he was accused in Spiegel magazine of being the “head of education” of the University of Zurich as “pioneer of a systematic review of attitudes”.
