The GDR boxing championships were held for the 38th time in 1986 and took place from December 3rd to 7th . The main venue for the championships was the Schwerin sports and congress hall . 107 boxers took part in the title fights and determined the champions in twelve weight classes. Boxing also took place in Boizenburg (preliminary round), Güstrow and Neustadt-Glewe (quarter-finals) and Wismar (semi-finals). The SC Traktor Schwerin was in its own hall with six titles the most successful club this championship. With Dieter Berg , Andreas Zülow , Torsten Koch , Enrico Richter , René Suetovius , Sven Lange and Ulli Kaden , seven boxers were able to defend their title from the previous year.
