Siegfried Mehnert
Siegfried Mehnert (born March 2, 1963 in Schenkenberg ) is a former German boxer .
Life
Mehnert began boxing at the children's and youth sports school in Halle . As a teenager he already collected his first titles in 1977 and 1979 at the Spartakiaden and the GDR junior championship, in 1982 he became junior European champion. Then, in his first year with the seniors, he was GDR champion, and at the European championships in 1983 he took third place. Fighting for SC Chemie Halle , Mehnert, who competed in the semi-welterweight division until 1987 and then in the welterweight division, had two European championship titles (1985 and 1989) and two second places at European and world championships (1987 and 1989). After the fall of the Wall, he achieved third place in the all-German championships in 1991 and then ended his career as an active boxer.
In 1986 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver in the GDR .
Today (as of 2008) Mehnert is active as a trainer for the boxers at Karlsruher SC .
