GDR championships in boxing 1980
The GDR boxing championships were held for the 32nd time in 1980 and took place in Leipzig from December 9th to 14th . With the introduction of the super heavyweight, the champions were determined for the first time in twelve weight classes. Only three boxers started in the light flyweight division, which is why there was only one third place. The ASK forward Frankfurt / O. was the most successful club in this championship with four titles. With Dietmar Geilich , Karl-Heinz Krüger and Jürgen Fanghänel , three boxers were able to defend their title from the previous year. Mario Behrendt and Rudi Fink came one weight class higher this time to title honors.
