Thomas Schulz (* 1950 in Berlin ) is a German artist.

life and work

He studied from 1977 to 1983 at the University of the Arts in Berlin . In 1979 he began to develop acoustic sculptures made of steel wire and glass, which became playable instruments in the architectural topological conditions of the landscape and space.

In the work Faced Mirror (1980), an ephemeral sculpture as 16 mm film , 180 steel wires at 360 points are distributed in space from the drawing of a body outline (made from prepared standard steel screws) to a steel wire construction. Against the background of the struggles for occupied houses at the time, the installation, conceived on the basis of cinematic visualization, brought together a double sequence of movements in a contrasting manner.

The monumental installation Sculpture Europe, an acoustic-visual research in and on the construction sites of the Eurotunnel in England and France and in the European Parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg, has been in existence since 1989 .

In 2015 Thomas Schulz was represented at the Donaueschinger Musiktage with the sound installation In den Raumfalls .
