Detlef Kastner

Detlef Kästner (born March 20, 1958 in Wurzen ) is a former German boxer , GDR champion 1980 and bronze medal winner at the 1980 Olympic Games in the light middleweight division.
Career
Detlef Kästner grew up in Wurzen, Saxony, and started boxing there as a teenager. The 1.74 meter tall athlete was soon delegated to SC Dynamo Berlin due to his success in the national junior division.
In 1976 he started at the Junior European Championships in Izmir and won there over Rostislav Osicka from Czechoslovakia on points (5-0), in the semifinals he was defeated by Koksol Ozogluoz and thus reached 3rd place.
In 1977 he finished second in the GDR welterweight championship after losing points in the final against Karl-Heinz Krüger from ASK forward Frankfurt (Oder) . In the following years, up to and including 1983, he won medals at the GDR championships. In 1980 he won his only GDR championship title by winning points in the final of the light middleweight division over Jürgen Alms from SC Traktor Schwerin (5-0).
In 1979 he started at the European Championship of Amateurs in Cologne in the light middleweight division. He lost to the 1976 Olympic champion Jerzy Rybicki from Poland , because he had to be taken out of the fight against him because of an injury he suffered in the second round. In 1980 Detlef Kästner started at the Intercup in Duisburg and lost there on points in the final fight against Markus Intlekofer from Germany .
At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , Detlef Kästner used the luck of the draw. He won after a light middleweight bye over Adeoye Adetunji from Nigeria by knockout in the 3rd round and over Leonidas Njunwa from Tanzania on points and had already reached the semifinals and thus a bronze medal . It stayed with this bronze medal, because in the semifinals he lost to Alexander Koschkin from the Soviet Union on points (0: 5).
In 1981 Detlef Kästner took part in the European Championships in Tampere . In the last sixteen he lost to Alexander Koschkin (0: 5). At the World Cup in Munich in 1982 he lost to Armando Martínez from Cuba (0: 5). He finished 9th in the light middleweight division at both events.
Detlef Kästner celebrated a remarkable victory in the final battle of the Chemistry Cup 1981 in Halle (Saale) . There he beat the Cuban Julio Quintana Martínez clearly on points in the final fight of the light middleweight division (5-0).
After the 1982 World Cup in Munich, Detlef Kästner did not start at any other international championships. In 1984 he resigned.
