European Boxing Championships 1979
The 24 men's European Amateur Boxing Championships amateur in 1979 were from May 5 to 12. May 1979 in Cologne in Germany held. With the introduction of the super heavyweight, the champions were determined for the first time in twelve weight classes. The boxers of the Soviet Union won seven weight classes alone, making them the most successful nation in this championship. With Yevgeny Gorstkow , only one boxer could successfully defend his European Championship title from 1977 . Henryk Średnicki came one weight class higher this time to title honors.
