Valentin Silaghi

Valentin Silaghi (born April 19, 1957 in Bobâlna ) is a former Romanian boxer . Silaghi was a silver medalist at the 1979 European Championships and a bronze medalist at the 1981 European Championships and the 1980 Olympic Games .

Career

Silaghi was Romanian middleweight champion (-75 kg) in 1978 and 1981.

His first appearance for the Romanian boxing selection denied Silaghi in 1977 in an international match against a Polish selection, which he won. The following year he won the Eastern Bloc police championships. At the European Championships in 1979 , Silaghi reached after victories a. a. over Manfred Jassmann , Germany (5: 0), the final, which he lost against Tarmo Uusivirta , Finland (5: 0), and thus won the silver medal. With this success he also qualified for the 1980 Olympic Games , in which he won the semifinals against José Gómez Mustelier after victories over Alfred Thomas, Guyana (5: 0), and Mark Kaylor, United Kingdom (3: 2) , Cuba (5-0) denied, lost and won the Olympic bronze medal.

At the European Championships in 1981 Silaghi won the bronze medal, where he was able to beat Uusivirta in the quarter-finals this time before he failed in the semi-finals to Pedro van Raamsdonk , Netherlands (4-1). The following year he took part in the world championships , but lost in the first fight against the eventual world champion Bernardo Comas, Cuba (4: 1). Then he retired from active sports.

After his playing career, Silaghi became a coach. For many years he worked as a federal base trainer at the Rhein-Neckar Federal Training Center for the German Boxing Association . In 2006, Silaghi became a trainer at Universum Box-Promotion . His protégé was here u. a. Luan Krasniqi . In 2010 he returned to the German Boxing Association as a national coach and supervised a. a. the German starters at the 2012 Olympic Games .
