Miodrag Perunović ; Montenegrin : Миодраг Перуновић (born December 10, 1957 in Cetinje ) is a former Yugoslav - Montenegrin boxer. He was vice world champion in the welterweight division in 1978, European light middleweight champion in 1979, and vice European champion in 1981. He also took part in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow.

Amateur career

Miodrag Perunović boxed for Budućnost Titograd . Already in 1973 at the age of 15 he won the bronze medal in the lightweight at the Balkan Championships in Athens and in 1976 the bronze medal in the light welterweight at the Junior European Championships in Izmir . In 1978 he won the Yugoslav welterweight championships and also took part in this weight class at the world championships of the same year in Belgrade , where he won the silver medal. He had defeated Pedro Gamarro from Venezuela, Ion Vladimir from Romania, Athanasios Iliades from Greece and Ernst Müller from Germany before losing just 2: 3 judges' votes against Valery Rachkow from the Soviet Union in the final .

In 1979 he won the light middleweight championships in Pula , the Mediterranean Games in Split and the European Championships in Cologne , where he defeated the reigning world champion Viktor Savchenko from the Soviet Union in the European Championship final . For these achievements he was voted "Yugoslavia's Sportsman of the Year" in 1979.

In 1980 he represented Yugoslavia in the light middleweight division at the 22nd Summer Olympics in Moscow . However, he was defeated in the second round to Brit Nick Wilshire just 2: 3 on points.

In 1981 he won again the Yugoslav championships in the light middleweight division and started in this weight class also at the European championships of the same year in Tampere , where he won the silver medal. This time he was defeated in the final against Alexander Koschkin from the Soviet Union.

Professional career

He moved to the professional camp in 1981 and won the IBF Intercontinental Middleweight Championship on September 1, 1989 in Munich ; he won on points against the German champion Andreas Prox (balance: 11-4). Other defeated opponents included Roberto Manoni (18-3), Jose Rosemain (10-0) and Salvador Yañez (16-1).

On November 14, 1991, he boxed in Ancona, Italy, for the EBU Middleweight Championship against Sumbu Kalambay (52-5), but was defeated by tKo in the fourth round. He then only played three more fights before ending his professional career at the end of 1994 with a record of 22 wins (7 knockouts), 6 defeats (4 knockouts) and 2 draws.
