Paweł Skrzecz
Paweł Ludwik Skrzecz (born August 25, 1957 in Warsaw ) is a former Polish boxer . Skrzecz was a bronze medalist at the 1979 European Championships and a silver medalist at the 1980 Olympic Games , the 1982 World Championships and the 1983 European Championships.
He is the twin brother of boxer Grzegorz Skrzecz .
Career
In the junior division (U19) Skrzecz won the Eastern Bloc championships in 1972.
In 1976 Skrzecz took part in the middleweight division (-75 kg) for the first time at the European Championships , but did not get beyond the first fight and the following year he won, as in 1978, the police championships of the Eastern Bloc in the light heavyweight division (-81 kg). In the same year he also took part in the World Championships for the first time , but also lost his first fight here.
At the European Championships in 1979 Skrzecz won his first international medal. After victories and a. against Ondrej Pustai, Czech Republic (5: 0), he lost in the semifinals to Albert Nikolyan, Soviet Union (4: 1), and thus won the bronze medal. The following year he took part in the 1980 Olympic Games and won the silver medal. He won against Mohamed Bouchiche, Algeria , Giorgica Donici, Romania (4: 1), and Ricardo Rojas Frías , Cuba (3: 2), and lost in the final against Slobodan Kačar , Yugoslavia (4: 1), bringing him the Olympic silver medal won.
In 1981 Skrzecz retired from the European Championships in the first fight against Donici (5-0). At the World Championships in the following year, however, after victories over Luis Quintana, Colombia (RSC 2nd), Bennie Heard, USA (5: 0), and Pero Tadic, Yugoslavia (4: 1), he reached the final, which he beat Pablo Romero , Cuba (5-0), lost and won the silver medal.
At his first last international championships, the European championships in 1983 , Skrzecz won after victories a. a. over Juha Hanninen, Finland (5: 0), and Eyup Ciftci, Turkey (5: 0), before losing to Vitaliy Kachanovskiy, Soviet Union (5: 0) in the final .
