Enrico Richter (born August 3, 1961 in Pirna ) is a former German boxer . He was European champion in 1987 and vice world champion in 1986 for amateur boxers in the light middleweight division.

Career

Enrico Richter started boxing as a youth at BSG Wismut Pirna- Copitz. His first trainer was his father Peter Richter. At the age of 14 he was delegated to Gera and belonged to the SG Wismut Gera . His coaches there were Rudolf Rochel, Jürgen Haddenbrock, Bodo Andreas and Jürgen Fanghänel . It took a relatively long time before Enrico Richter was able to prevail in the GDR against his then competitors Ralf Hunger , Detlef Kästner , Maik Olesch and Michael Timm and become GDR champion for the first time.

This was the case in 1985. In that year he won the GDR light middleweight championship by defeating Maik Olesch from SC Chemie Halle . Enrico Richter won this title in 1986 and 1988. His defeated final opponent was Maik Olesch every time. In 1987, Enrico Richter was defeated in the final by Torsten Schmitz from SC Tractor Schwerin and was therefore runner-up.

Enrico Richter made his debut at an international championship in 1986 at the world championship in Reno / USA. He started there in the light middleweight division and won over Kevin Bryant from the USA, Hae Jung-Lee, South Korea , and Melquis Manon from the cathedral. Rep. And Lofti Ayed from Sweden each on points. So he was in the final fight against Ángel Espinosa from Cuba , which he delivered a courageous fight, but lost with 1: 4 judges votes.

In 1987 Enrico Richter became European light middleweight champion in Turin . On the way to this title he defeated Danny de Beul, Belgium , Blagoj Sokolow from Bulgaria , Neville Brown from England and in the final battle Viktor Jegorow from the Soviet Union (5: 0 judges' votes). In October of this year, Enrico Richter celebrated a victory at the World Cup in Belgrade . Here he won over Danny Sherry from Canada on points, Fatnir Makoli from Yugoslavia by breaking off in the 2nd round and again over Viktor Jegorow, against whom he got a 4-1 decision this time.

In the battle for the ticket to the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 , Enrico Richter lost out against Torsten Schmitz and was therefore unable to start there. In 1989 he was back at the European Championships in Athens . He reached there in light middleweight together with Rosen Ibischow from Bulgaria in third place behind Israel Akopkochjan from the USSR and Rudel Obreja from Romania . In the same year world championships were held in Moscow. Since Torsten Schmitz was used there in the light middleweight division, Enrico Richter had to switch to the middleweight division, which Olympic champion Henry Maske had made free by switching to the light heavyweight division. In this weight class he defeated Ahmet Dine from Algeria clearly on points in the first round , but met Ángel Espinosa in the quarterfinals, against whom he had already lost at the 1986 World Cup and had to admit defeat to this again. He remained without a medal.

After German reunification, Enrico Richter boxed for a short time for CSC Frankfurt in the German Bundesliga. But he ended his career as an active boxer in 1991.

In 1986 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver in the GDR .

He stayed in boxing as a trainer at BC Wismut Gera . At the same club he also holds the office of vice-president.
