Ángel Espinosa Capó (born October 2, 1966 in Holguín , Cuba ; † April 12, 2017 in Hialeah Gardens , Florida , United States ) was a Cuban amateur boxer.

Career

The hard hitting southpaw was one of the outstanding semi-middle and middleweights of the 1980s and feared opponent of the Germans. He beat Sven Ottke , Henry Maske (three wins in three matches), Enrico Richter and Michael Timm . He also beat the US amateur world champion Darin Allen three times.

In 1983 he was in Santo Domingo junior world champion light welterweight, he defeated there in the final the later Olympic champion and professional world champion Meldrick Taylor by k. o. in the second round.

In 1986 in Reno, he became an amateur world champion as a light middleweight. At the World Cup in 1989 he won only silver in the middleweight division in Moscow, where he defeated Sven Ottke in the semi-finals, but was defeated in the final against Andrei Kurnjawka from the Soviet Union .
