René Suetovius

René Suetovius (born June 3, 1964 in Zittau ) is a former German amateur boxer who took part in the 1988 Olympic Games for the GDR . He started working for SC Chemie Halle during his active time .

Career

He won his first medal at the GDR boxing championships in 1983 . He was eliminated in the semifinals and won the bronze medal in the middleweight division with Reiner Schween behind Henry Maske and Helmut Woge . The following year he started at the GDR championships not in the middleweight division, but in the light heavyweight division and reached the final there. With a final victory against René Ryl from TSC Berlin , he was GDR champion for the first time. He was able to defend his title in 1985 and 1986 against René Ryl.

In 1987 he switched from light heavyweight to heavyweight and reached the final at the GDR championships in 1987 and was able to win his fourth GDR championship title by beating Maik Heydeck from SC Dynamo Berlin . In 1988 he returned to the light heavyweight division and was nominated for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul . In the first round in the light heavyweight division he met Markus Bott from the Federal Republic of Germany and was eliminated from the tournament due to a defeat. At the GDR championships in 1988 he lost the final for the GDR light heavyweight title against Sven Lange and won the silver medal. He won his last GDR championship title in 1989 . In these title fights he went back to the heavyweight division and reached the final against Michael Ernst from BSG Stahl Hennigsdorf . With a win he was able to become GDR champion for the fifth time.
