Alfred J. Hendron

Alfred J. Hendron junior (born October 4, 1937 in Clifton , Illinois ) is an American civil engineer who deals with geotechnical engineering and was a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign .

Hendron studied at the University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree in 1959, a master's degree in 1960 and a doctorate in 1963. From 1965 he was an assistant professor and from 1970 professor at the University of Illinois. In 1995 he retired and was then a consulting engineer. He lives in Savoy .

He dealt with the safety of dams and nuclear power plants (from a geotechnical point of view). Among other things, he officially investigated the failure of the Taum-Sauk Dam near Lesterville (Missouri) . He also conducted research for the US Department of Defense on issues of security and protection against nuclear weapons from a geotechnical perspective.

In 2013 he gave the Terzaghi Lecture . He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering .

Hendron has been married since 1941 and has two sons.
