Alfred Jäger (theologian)

Alfred Jäger (born November 2, 1941 in St. Gallen ; † March 2, 2015 ibid) was a Swiss theologian who held the chair for systematic theology at the Bethel Church University (today: Wuppertal Church University / Bethel ) from 1981 to 2006 .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1960 at St. Gallen, Jäger studied Protestant theology in Zurich, Rome, Göttingen, Basel and Princeton (New Jersey, USA). In 1967 he was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD . There he also completed his vicariate and represented Fritz Buri at the Basel Minster. From 1969 to 1975 he worked as a parish pastor in Wolfhalden in Appenzell Ausserrhoden, then until 1981 as a university pastor and lecturer in Protestant theology at the University of St. Gallen . During this time he completed his habilitation in systematic theology at the University of Basel in 1977. Appointed to the Bethel Church University in 1981, he soon became a consultant for the management of the von Bodelschwingh Foundation Bethel due to his knowledge of the St. Gallen management model .

In 1987 he became deputy chairman of the supervisory board of the company “Beratung Sozialer Unternehmen” (BSU) in Stuttgart for a number of years , and in 2000 he became president of the foundation board and member of the supervisory board of the “Collegium Augustinum” in Munich. Since 2002 he has been building up the Diaconal Science Competence Center at the Bethel Church University , from which the Institute for Diaconal Science and Diaconal Management of the merged University for Church and Diakonia in Wuppertal and Bethel emerged in 2008. The drafts of the continuing education study programs for diaconal management staff with the degrees Master (since 2004) and Doctor of Diaconal Science (Dr. diac., Since 2008) at the Institute for Diaconal Science and Diaconal Management also came from his pen. Since his retirement at the end of the 2006/07 winter semester, Alfred Jäger lived again in St. Gallen.
