Alfred Lamoureux

Alfred Lamoureux (born December 29, 1876 in Montreal ; † March 10, 1954 ) was a Canadian composer, organist and music teacher.

Lamoureux studied at the Institut Nazareth with Achille Fortier , Romain-Octave Pelletier , Victoria Cartier , Frantz Jehin-Prume and Joseph-Jean Goulet . Between 1897 and 1940 he taught at various institutions in the Montreal region, including the St-Laurent College , the Académie Cherrier and the Institut Nazareth . His students included Louise André , Hervé Cloutier , Gabriel Cusson , Gérald Desmarais and Sister Marie-Stéphane .

He composed four masses , two oratorios ( Tragédie d'Esther and La Samaritaine ), a number of motets , songs and choral works. His lectures Causeries sur l'art musical and Causeries sur différents musiciens , given to blind musicians, were published in Braille . He was also the author of Manuel d'histoire de la musique pour les couvents et les collèges .
