Gabriel Cusson

Gabriel Cusson (born April 2, 1903 in Roxton Pond near Granby (Québec) , † April 18, 1972 in Montreal ) was a Canadian composer and music teacher.

Cusson studied at the Institut Nazareth in Montreal with Gustave Labelle , Alfred Lamoureux , Arthur Letondal , Achille Fortier and Romain Pelletier . With a Prix ​​d'Europe he continued his studies from 1924 to 1930 at the École Normale de Musique in Paris with Nadia Boulanger , Charles Panzéra and Diran Alexanian .

After returning to Canada, he initially taught counterpoint, where Jean Papineau-Couture was his most famous student. From 1943 to 1971 he taught ear training at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec . Over the years u. a. Gaston Arel , Raymond Daveluy , Kenneth Gilbert , Bernard Lagacé , Aline Letendre , Lucienne L'Heureux-Arel and Michel Perrault . In the 1950s he was president of the Académie de musique de Québec (AMQ).

Cusson composed a cantata , drama music, two orchestral suites , a serenade for orchestra, motets and folk song arrangements .
