Alfred McAlpine

Alfred McAlpine is a listed British architecture and construction company headquartered in London . More than 10 percent of the UK's motorways and expressways have been designed and built by this company.

The company was founded in 1935 by Alfred McAlpine. Alfred McAlpine was one of the sons of Robert McAlpine, an architect and engineer. His son followed him in this branch. The office remained small for years and became one of the largest in the UK in the 1980s. In addition to engineering, it developed its own construction company. As part of a consortium, the company was primarily responsible for the construction of the M6 Toll Motorway . Important structures erected by Alfred McAlpine: the Galpharm Stadium in Huddersfield , which was originally called the Alfred McAlpine Stadium; the Dinorwig hydropower station , the Manchester Central Convention complex, the New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton , the Royal Armories Museum in Leeds , the DW Stadium in Wigan and the Eden project .
