William Russell Houck

William Russell Houck (born June 26, 1926 in Mobile , Alabama - † March 9, 2016 in Jackson , Mississippi ) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Jackson .

Life

William Russell Houck was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Mobile on May 19, 1951 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on March 28, 1979 auxiliary bishop in Jackson and titular bishop of Alexanum . The Pope personally donated him episcopal ordination on May 27 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were Eduardo Martínez Somalo , substitute for the State Secretariat , and Duraisamy Simon Lourdusamy , Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples .

He was named Bishop of Jackson on April 11, 1984, and inaugurated on June 5 of that year. On April 30, 2003, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
