Alfred "Al Mineo" Manfredi (* unknown, † 5. November 1930 in Bronx , New York City ) was a senior member of the American Cosa Nostra and head of the later than Gambino family called Mafia -Clans.

Life

At the beginning of the 20th century, there were essentially five powerful criminal families in New York. With the arrest and conviction of the most powerful boss Giuseppe Morello (aka Peter Morello ) in 1910, Salvatore D'Aquila became one of the most powerful bosses in New York.

The young Al Mineo joined D'Aquila.

Joseph "Joe the Boss" Masseria took over the Morello family in the early 1920s. When Giuseppe Morello was released from prison, he allied himself with Masseria against Toto D'Aquila. After the assassination of Salvatore D'Aquila by Joe Masseria's killer in 1928 , Mineo became the new head and proved to be an important ally of Masseria . This was in conflict with Salvatore Maranzano , who tried to assert himself in the so-called War of Castellammare (1930-1931) as " Capo di tutti i capi " (Italian: Boss of all bosses).

Al Mineo and his right-hand man, Steve Ferrigno , were shot dead in the courtyard of a block of flats in Pelham Parkway , Bronx on November 5, 1930 ; the killers hired by Maranzano had actually hoped to kill Joe Masseria . After all, they achieved the effect that the successor Francesco Scalice now allied with Maranzano .
