Alfred Schmieder

Franz Alfred Schmieder (born May 13, 1883 in Dresden , † 1942 in Dachau concentration camp ) was a Dresden worker functionary and anti-fascist resistance fighter .

Alfred Schmieder was a trained accountant and active functionary of the SPD . He carried out his party work mainly in the Dresden district of Löbtau , where he also worked with functionaries of the KPD . After the SPD came to power and the SPD was banned, Schmieder was briefly arrested in June 1933. However, he took part in the resistance again when he was released. For example, he organized the distribution of the social democratic “ Vorwärts ”, which was illegally printed in Prague.

In autumn 1933 Schmieder was arrested a second time by the Gestapo . After months of pre-trial detention, he was sentenced to two years in prison by a special court in Freiberg , which he served in Bautzen prison. After his release in December 1935, he worked underground again. On October 7, 1941, Schmieder was arrested a third time and deported to Buchenwald concentration camp and later to Dachau concentration camp . After about a year and a half, Schmieder's wife was notified of his death in the Dachau concentration camp. The exact circumstances of his murder could never be clarified. Schmieders urn grave is located in the honor grove of the Dresden Heidefriedhof .

Commemoration

Since February 1946 the former street Zur Höhenluft in Dresden- Dölzschen has been called Alfred-Schmieder-Straße. The 133rd Polytechnic High School in Dresden- Gorbitz bore the honorary name "Alfred Schmieder". After the reunification , this school was closed.
