Alfred Stingl
Alfred Stingl (born May 28, 1939 in Graz ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and was mayor of the city of Graz from 1985 to 2003.
Life
In 1968 he was elected to the Graz City Council for the first time, and in 1973 to the City Senate. He achieved particular merits as a youth councilor. From 1983 to 1985 he was Vice Mayor of Graz. On January 10, 1985, he was elected mayor. In 2003 he was succeeded by Siegfried Nagl . Alfred Stingl is President of the Austrian Society for Nature Conservation and Environmental Protection and he is Honorary Senator of the Graz University of Technology . Since the beginning of 2004, Stingl has been volunteering as a social ombudsman for the From Mensch zu Mensch campaign of the free weekly newspaper WOCHE Graz .
