Alfred Vierkandt

Alfred Vierkandt (born June 4, 1867 in Hamburg , † April 24, 1953 in Berlin ) was a German sociologist, ethnologist , social psychologist , social and historical philosopher .

Life

Vierkandt, who came from a poor background, studied mathematics , physics , geography and psychology at the University of Leipzig and completed his habilitation in Braunschweig in 1894 . In 1909 he was one of the founders of the German Society for Sociology . From 1913 to 1934 he was professor of sociology at the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin. With his retirement he was banned from lecturing by the National Socialists, but continued teaching from 1946.
