Alfredo Rossi y Rossi

Alfredo Rossi y Rossi (born October 8, 1920 in Olavarría ) is an Argentine composer .

Rossi had piano lessons as a child and later performed as a pianist and bandoneonist. He did not study composition until the 1950s with Alberto Ginastera , José Martí Llorca , Gerardo Gandini and later with Jorge Pítari . From 1968 to 1985 he was professor of harmony, counterpoint and fugue at the Conservatorio Provincial y Nacional de Música and conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica y de Cuerdas in his hometown. For this he was awarded the Golden Baton by the Personajes de mi ciudad company in 1998.

In addition to a ballet, Rossi composed orchestral works, chamber music, pieces for solo instruments and choral works. His compositions were u. a. Performed at the Teatro Colón and Teatro Coliseo in Buenos Aires, in other Argentine cities and in Europe. Rossi was u. a. awarded the Premio del fondo Nacional de las Artes (1989) and several times the prize of the Argentine Composers Association.
